"Please, Mister Lamoree!" Begs a little girl.
The group of homeless children surrounds me. They beg me to use my powers over ice to create a small statue they can sell for money.
"Listen, everyone, I've been willing to help you once and then twice, but..."
"I'm begging you!" Says a little boy. "Winter is coming soon and many of us have no warm clothes."
"Mister Lamoree! Mister Lamoree! Mister Lamoree!" They say in chorus.
Last time, the money from my statue was used for food.
"All right then." I said, giving up. "But this is the last time."
"THANK YOU!" Say the kids. "You're a hero!"
I blush. A hero? Me? I don't think so. I concentrate and a mass of ice forms in my hands.
"So, what do you want me to create?" I asked the group of children. "A dog, like last time?"
"A cat!" Says a little girl.
"No, an angel!" Says another little boy.
"Come on, don't fight or I'll be the one to choose!"
"A cat angel!" An older boy finally says.
It was an original idea. I transform the pile of ice into a cat angel statue.
"There you go!" I said, handing it to a child.
They all thank me again, wave, and leave. I know my creation will help them but I'd rather the people of the French town helped them with food, clothing or, even better, loving families and a permanent home.
